How can we help?

Why is Marine Biodiversity important? Well, healthy marine ecosystems are equally as important for society as the wellbeing of man, since it provides food, medicinal material and a natural defense & protection against coastal erosion.

So what is Terrestrial Biodiversity? this refers to microorganisms, plants and animals that live on land habitats like wetlands, forests & deserts.

Are Cultural Impact Statements & Cultural Safety Reports  necessary? In Aotearoa, depending on the type of activity conducted, alterations to terrestrial and marine vegetation and/or biodiversity, may require resource consent, that could possibly trigger a response  through a CIS from iwi/mana whenua in your region, particularly if the activity impacts or threatens the safety of mana whenua, their taonga, wai and waahi tapu including iwi ability to engage with traditional customs.

Initiating and maintaining open lines of communication with council and mana whenua is essential to avoid complications in future.
